Position Overview
The Wellness Facilitator will develop and lead evidence-informed sessions, train regular program staff, and deliver activities focused on emotional regulation, coping skills, conflict resolution, and self-expression through art, recreation, and discussion for children aged 4–12.
Working under the supervision of the Child & Youth Coordinator, this role will assist program staff in implementing social-emotional learning practices and help ensure programs run smoothly each day. This role will also provide direct support to children and youth during programming.
The Wellness Facilitator strengthens proactive behaviour supports and inclusive practices while helping staff respond to children’s emotional and developmental needs in a supportive and trauma-informed way.
This position also provides operational support to the Child & Youth Coordinator, helping maintain strong daily program delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Child & Youth Support

Support children in developing emotional regulation, social skills, and positive peer relationships.

Model co-regulation strategies and trauma-informed responses when supporting children during moments of distress or heightened emotions.

Provide additional support to children who may require help engaging in activities or navigating social situations.

Assist with transitions between activities to help maintain a calm and structured program environment.

Support inclusive participation for children with diverse emotional, developmental, and social needs.
Program Facilitation & Leadership

Co-facilitate Afterschool Program and Summer Day Camp activities.
-
Assist in leading both small-group and large-group programming.
-
Support implementation of daily program schedules and transitions.

Step into a leadership role when the Child & Youth Coordinator is managing administrative or operational responsibilities.

Assist with daily program set-up and clean-up.
Social-Emotional Learning & Wellness Programming

Support the development and implementation of weekly social-emotional learning (SEL) themes.
-
Facilitate activities that promote emotional literacy, mindfulness, self-regulation, and relationship-building.

Integrate wellness-based programming into daily activities.
-
Help create a supportive environment that encourages empathy, resilience, and positive communication.

Staff Support & Collaboration

Provide in-the-moment support to staff during challenging moments with children.

Assist with debriefing and reflection after incidents.

Help staff implement consistent expectations and behaviour support strategies.

Support new staff and volunteers in learning social-emotional and trauma-informed practices.

Contribute to maintaining a positive and collaborative team environment.
Program Operations Support

Assist the Child & Youth Coordinator with maintaining strong daily program flow.

Support the coordination of staff during high-need periods.

Assist with program organization and preparation of materials.

Support safe and smooth program transitions throughout the day.
Family Communication (Support Role)

Participate in supportive conversations with families when appropriate.

Share general strategies that may support children’s emotional well-being at home.

Assist with documenting behavioural observations or program notes when required.
Summer Day Camp Responsibilities
During the Summer Day Camp program, the Mental Wellness Facilitator will:

Support children who may struggle with changes in routine or new environments.

Help manage high-energy transitions throughout the day.

Lead structured wellness or mindfulness programming blocks.

Provide immediate emotional and behavioural support when needed.
-
Assist with daily camp preparation, organization, and clean-up.
-
Support team morale and collaboration during the camp season.
Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.

Experience working with children ages 4–13 in camp, recreation, afterschool, or community settings.
